Meet The Team at Fx Therapies

Monica Hood M.A., CCC-SLP, AOMT-C
Speech Language Pathologist, Feeding Therapist & Certified Myofunctional Therapist

Monica is the founder of Fx Therapies. She is a Pennsylvania & New Jersey licensed Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Myofunctional Therapist. She earned her undergraduate degree in Speech and Language Hearing Sciences at Temple University and her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at West Chester University. Monica holds a Certificate in Clinical Competence (CCC) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a Certified Myofunctional Therapist (AOMT-C) through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT).

Monica strives to find the ‘root cause’ to treat speech, language, feeding, and orofacial myofunctional disorders rather than the symptoms. She uses a holistic approach when looking at her clients both in her assessments and treatment. Monica specializes in treating pediatric and adult Speech Sound Disorders SSD (articulation and phonological disorders), Oral Motor Disorders (apraxia of speech, dysarthria, and oral motor-based feeding disorders), and Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (nasal breathing, proper oral rest posture of the lips and tongue, proper chewing and swallowing, oral habit elimination). Monica has specific training for oral motor-based speech and feeding disorders including OPT, OMT, PROMPT, and DTTC.

I am on a mission to help children and adults become functional breathers, eaters, and communicators. As a speech-language pathologist and myofunctional therapist, my work is deeply rooted in both clinical expertise and personal experience. Having struggled with breathing and sleep issues throughout my life, I came to understand firsthand how inefficient breathing and poor sleep can negatively impact health, behavior, performance, and overall quality of life.

For many years, I was a chronic mouth breather with persistent fatigue, frequent illness, anxiety, and limited endurance in sports. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries intended to “correct” my breathing, I continued to feel that something was missing. It wasn’t until I discovered myofunctional therapy that I finally addressed the root cause—learning to re-establish nasal breathing, develop proper oral rest posture with the tongue positioned on the palate, and support functional swallowing patterns. These changes were transformative and significantly improved my well-being.

Today, I help my clients prioritize breathing, eating, and communication as foundational components of optimal health. At Fx Therapies, this approach includes prevention through education and awareness, promotion of healthy development, identification of underlying root causes, and targeted treatment to restore function. With the right tools and guidance, my clients are empowered to achieve functional breathing, eating, and communication skills—and to live to their fullest potential.

Monica Hood M.A., CCC-SLP, AOMT-C
Speech Language Pathologist, Feeding Therapist & Certified Myofunctional Therapist

My mission is to help clients of all ages experience joy and ease in three essential parts of life: communication, eating and breathing. Breathing should feel natural, feeding and mealtimes should be positive and stress-free, and children should feel motivated, confident, and excited to communicate.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist and Myofunctional Therapist, I believe in educating clients and providing the care, tools, and strategies needed to set them up for long-term success. I strive to identify and treat the root cause and look for functional impacts on the child’s everyday life, no matter what age! I have had several parents ask, “Is it too late to make any progress?” and the answer is NO! It is never too late and, in my opinion, never too early to improve breathing, feeding and communicating. I am passionate about meeting each client where they are on their speech/feeding/myofunctional therapy journeys.

One of my main goals is always to make therapy as meaningful as possible. I prioritize working with families to determine how we can improve mealtimes, sleep quality, oral resting posture, social interactions, confidence in communicating and expressing wants/needs, etc. By making therapy functional, meaningful, and personalized, I aim to create positive outcomes that extend well beyond the therapy setting.
